Our Research & Development Process
BJU Press's Academic Quality (www.hightestscores.com)
When BJU Press was founded in the 1970s, homeschooling was not a common educational choice—so BJU Press sold its textbooks to Christian schools. But one day a single phone call changed the focus of BJU Press. A homeschool mom called and asked if BJU Press would sell her some Christian homeschool textbooks for her children. With that one phone call, a new world of opportunities for educational ministry opened up.
BJU Press embraced the cause of homeschooling, offering up dozens of new resources with homeschool parents in mind. Today, BJU Press is considered one of the top providers of Christian homeschool curriculum in the world.
BJU Press homeschool textbooks are known for their high quality, their beautiful design, and their solid biblical worldview.
Juggling the everyday needs of the household plus the demands of homeschooling can be a challenge. So BJU Press developed a Distance Learning program for homeschools, based on the excellent content of our homeschool textbooks. Rather than filming a classroom, we designed our Distance Learning video classes specifically for the homeschool setting. Our teachers speak directly to the homeschool student, providing the one-on-one educational atmosphere that homeschool parents cherish. Colorful sets and illustrative props help the child stay engaged in the lesson.
BJU Press Distance Learning is available in three different options. The first of these is BJU Press Distance Learning Online, or DLO. Distance Learning Online allows a homeschool student to access the lesson videos and other course material anywhere and anytime, as long as he has a computer and high-speed internet.
Homeschool parents also have the option to purchase BJU Press Distance Learning on DVD. This homeschool DVD program uses the same quality content as Distance Learning Online, so it has all the engaging video classes taught by our award-winning instructors.
The third BJU Press Distance Learning option is Distance Learning on Hard Drive. A single external Hard Drive (about the size of a video cassette) contains all the video lessons for every subject in an entire grade.
Because credibility and security is important to Christian homeschool families, BJU Press established the Academy of Home Education. Membership in the Academy of Home Education provides validation, accountability, and security for homeschool families.
BJU Press Testing & Evaluation is renowned as a fast, secure testing service. BJU Press Testing & Evaluation offers national standardized tests, learning abilities tests such as CogAT and OLSAT, and a variety of other assessments.
BJU Press Homeschool Consultants are on-call every day to answer questions from homeschool parents. Each one has personal experience with homeschooling.
BJU Press Solutions Events and homeschool curriculum meetings are held by Homeworks Consultants—sales representatives for BJU Press. Homeworks Consultants are current or former homeschool moms who have used BJU Press homeschool textbooks and BJU Press Distance Learning with outstanding success.
Every month, BJU Press sends out BJU Press Homeschool Solutions eNews to hundreds of homeschool families. The eNews may include an interesting article, an uplifting devotional, information about new products, a special offer, and an opportunity to give feedback.
Since the fall of 2010, BJU Press has offered a series of free online seminars dedicated to serving and training homeschool parents. These seminars are entitled Christian Homeschooling Advancement, Resources, and Training (CHART) and cover a wide range of high-interest educational topics.
All of these BJU Press homeschool resources are designed to strengthen homeschool families and give them all the support they need for their homeschooling. BJU Press exists to encourage Christian character in young people and promote academic excellence through the provision of K4—grade 12 educational materials and support services. As the needs of homeschools grow and change, we will continue as we have always done—developing high-quality materials and services to support the cause of Christian homeschooling.
