Grade 5 Online with Books is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not what I was hoping for The online teaching was thorough but very slow. It was old and did not keep my child's attention. It also took much longer than it said it would. It took us 1 1/2 hours a lesson. That is just way too long. Lastly the quality of picture on an iMac was blurry. On the positive side, the teaching is good and the cost is reasonable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The overall Scope and Ssequence is great. The Curriculum is consistent with public academics except with a Christian perspective in certain subjects. BJU press has made the learning process more enjoyable. Vocabulary is taught within the stories in reading, not a separate class. The teachers use lots of visuals for the kids to understand history, science and reading concepts. Sometimes the videos can be a little long, but they do include fun information and extra little side shows. We have enjoyed finding many academic concepts in the Bible and it helps the student relate the Bible to the real world.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Education and Super Biblical! We're starting our sixth year with BJU (times two kids) and we love it. The teachers in the videos are generally quite good. The material is presented in an engaging way and is covered quite thoroughly. We have no doubts at all about the quality of the education our kids are receiving as we use this curriculum. We need to give special praise to the reading and Bible programs. From the earliest levels the reading books are so well written that my wife and I read them for ourselves. They teach great, Biblical lessons and when the grade-level is finished we are setting almost all of them aside to read with our grandkids someday. The Bible program is very solid and we are so impressed with how firmly they hold to the traditional understanding of the Scriptures. We also love the way in which BJU works Biblical ideas and lessons into almost every subject. It is seamless and really shows how the Lord impacts every area of life. We have had maybe 3 or 4 technical glitches over 5 completed years of using the curriculum. All were resolved quickly (with 24 hrs) by the technical support team. The only caution we have is that the curriculum is fairly time-intensive. In the lower grades we were able to carefully manage our time and watch all the videos for both grades alongside our kids on a single computer. Now that they are older, they really each need their own computer to be able to get through everything in a day. Well worth it, though. We love this curriculum and have no intention of looking for anything else.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent education - very long day My son has a late summer birthday. I sort of have him in between grades. He is doing 4th grade BJU English, 3rd grade BJU handwriting (cursive is new to him), 5th grade BJU math, 5th BJU reading, 5th grade BJU science, and All About Spelling. I am still trying to find time to start BJU Bible with him. There just doesn't seem to be enough time in a day. I have completely given up on BJU Heritage Studies. He is in Classical Conversations and is reading through The Story of the World. I am positive that BJU provides an excellent education. For the most part, my son really enjoys the lectures. It would be MUCH better if the videos were shorter. He simply does not have the attention span for each class to take an hour (30 min video and around 30 min for an assignment). BJU gives you 1.5 years of online access. As much as I don't want to, I have a feeling we will be completing this year's work next fall. I just don't want to squash any love of learning he has with extremely long school days. One advantage of homeschooling is supposed to be more time to play with your siblings and be outside. BJU distance learning is not conducive to that.
