Mrs. Sherri Vick, BS

Mrs. Sherri Vick, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningSherri Vick previously taught various elementary and junior high grades. "I like to look at the picture as a whole—to relate one subject to another so that the child can see how God’s plan fits together. I want the child to want to learn, so the lessons have to be fun. Hands-on is the best way, so I don’t want the student to just watch, but participate too! One of my goals is that, after watching the lessons, your child will continue in the things he has learned and develop lifelong learning skills that he can use both now and in the future."

Mrs. Cynthia Bullock, BS

Mrs. Cynthia Bullock, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningAfter graduating from Bob Jones University in 1987, Cynthia Bullock went on to teach history in Virginia, Michigan, Florida, and North Carolina. It was in Michigan that she met her husband, who was the math teacher in the Christian school where they served together for 17 years. They have four children, three girls and a boy. She took ten years off to stay home with them since three of the four are profoundly deaf. When they mainstreamed into a normal classroom, she returned to the classroom. The Lord led her here to BJU Press Distance Learning in 2011. “I'm so excited about having your child as my student. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to serve you by coming along side and lightening your load.”

Miss Rebekah Pringle, BA, MA

Miss Rebekah Pringle, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMiss Pringle's interest in literature began at an early age through her mother's almost daily reading aloud of good literature as a part of her family's school day. The past 10 years of focused study and teaching in the disciplines of Creative Writing and English have increased Miss Pringle's delight and enthusiasm in analyzing and evaluating all genres of literature. “Everyone loves a story. A well-crafted story, poem, essay, or drama delights me on several levels, but it's the benefit of gaining an increased understanding and appreciation of God's inspired literature, His Word, that motivates me to apply and grow in my own literary analysis skills and to do my best to instill in my students a similar desire for and delight in literature. It's my prayer that as we enjoy great literary works together we will be inspired to love and pursue God's truth presented in His greatest Book of literature.”

Mr. Bill Harmon, BS

Mr. Bill Harmon, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningBill Harmon has loved science for as long as he can remember. After completing his B.S. in Chemistry, he returned to Florida where he gained experience teaching a variety of subjects: science, math, Latin, and computer courses. Now he works as a chemist in the Safety Services Office at BJU, teaches Distance Learning Physics and Algebra, and teaches Chemistry at Bob Jones Academy. He completed an M.Ed. in Secondary Education in 2014. He and his wife Mary Ann have two children, Brian and Janette. His favorite Bible verse is II Timothy 3:14.

Grade 8 Online with Books is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent teacher - teaches to all learning styles Mrs. Bullock has been our favorite teacher. She teaches to all the learning styles, and always reviews each day. I find her extremely interesting. My kids are thriving in history because of her. They had outstanding standardized tests scores in history, and I believe it was because of the quality of this course and the others she has taught.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recommend! This was our first year using DLO. This Pre-Algebra course is excellent and Mr. Harmon does a wonderful job teaching the concepts. It is very thorough and Biblically-based.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Curriculum This is my first year using exclusively BJUpress curriculum and my first time using the DLO. I am very pleased with both. I love the critical thinking emphasis in the curriculum and the activity books for reinforcement. DLO is so easy for the me as the parent who does the grading and it's so easy for my child do keep track of the lessons on his/her own. The teachers do a SUPERB job! I will definitely start incorporating more BJU material into my homeschool. Thank you, BJU for your work in putting out a wonderful Christian-based curriculum!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First year with BJU a success! Last year was our first year with BJU and we found that the curriculum is very thorough and comprehensive. The guys liked laughing along with the teachers and the way the material was explained. One thing to remember as with any curriculum is to tailor it to fit your child. If they need extra there is plenty to keep them going, if not, pare it down so it is doable and less overwhelming. Thanks BJU for a great year. We are looking forward to this new school year and what you will be teaching us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this curriculum! This is my second time with BJU. The first time was in the early 1990's and everything has changed. We didn't even have the video lessons then. Now, with my third and final child, we are using the online version and technology is all around us. She loves the computer, so this comes easy to her. The course are difficult and challenging, especially since she is special needs (autistic). We have been doing this since her 2nd grade and we are getting ready to order Grade 8! Already! The teachers are great. We are glad to see the bible become an elective as our beliefs tend to differ in some important areas (we are Lutheran). We don't always have time for the Spanish but plan on using the summer months for that. All in all the teachers are great. The parent side is easy to follow and not confusing at all. We do use the printed books and would like to see the use of the homeschool version rather than the Christian School version as we tend to take the books with us to competitions (she is an ice skater) and it would be a great help when we are without the computer. Otherwise we love it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Using BJUPress for a second stint I First used BJUPress from 2007-2012 with my first two daughters. I used the DVD curriculum. I am now using the online version with my third daughter for just one semester. I was disappointed that I had to buy and waste some of the materials because it was cheaper to buy the whole grade rather than subject by subject. We are only using 5 of the 7 subjects. I feel like the individual subjects should be cheaper. Also, I feel like the parent resource folders could be better organized. Every time I want to find something, it takes me several minutes to find it. It is not very user-friendly. I do not think it would be that difficult for BJUPress to clean this up. The other thing that I do not like is that the online grade book has very little grades to enter. There are no grades for daily math assignments. I am currently using the online and also the excel grade books. Would it be that difficult to be able to enter grades on all assignments and parents can choose which they want to enter? Thanks so much for your consideration with these things. Overall, the online system has been so much better than the DVD system for our daughter since it takes so much less time for her to complete daily work assignments. Thanks for all you do to make your curriculum tailored to the needs of homeschooling families!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I recommend BJU over and over Thirteen years ago when we pulled our son out of school to homeschool, we felt blessed to find what was then BJU Home Sat with the classes brought in by satellite feed each day. It was not a perfect system, and it was challenging, but we knew right from the start we had found something special. Our son went from failing almost every class in Christian school 7th grade to testing above high school level in every subject by the end of 8th grade, all by using BJU materials and the teaching. We switched to DVD rentals as soon as they were available, and he finished high school that way, went on to college seamlessly, and placed high into the Air Force because of his entrance exam scores. Fast forward 13 years from those early days to today, and I am remarried with a newly adopted 13-year-old stepson, this time in 7th grade in public school, and as soon as we could we have brought him home to homeschool. Finances are tighter than they once were so we tried other options for the past few months, but after having BJU Distance Learning for my older son, everything else pales in comparison. And even though the $999 seems like a lot for a year, its just $200 or less per class including books, and I was finding we were approaching that for the piecemeal way we were trying to save money. It wasn't saving us. We were coming within $200 of BJU so we made the commitment to just do this for him. I can't wait to do this again with a new son and introduce him to classes with Ms. Vick and Mr. Harmon, my older son's favorite teachers. I highly recommend BJU Press whenever anyone asks about homeschooling. To me, it is the gold standard in homeschooling.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Difficult but good My daughter is finding the curriculum very difficult and we are finding some discrepancies with her requirements and teacher checks. However, I have found it to be a very well done course over all. My greatest difficulty has been trying to figure out my part as her facilitator due to my lack of computer knowledge and experience.
