We wanted something more challenging for my 3rd grader this year when it came to grammar and the foundation of English. This is the perfect fit for us! It's easily adaptable for homeschoolers and has lots of extra activities to use. The work text that goes alongside this for the student is great and the additional worksheets for practice are great for when the student needs more practice on a certain concept. My daughter loves the material and perhaps more importantly, I love it! It requires very little planning ahead of time and is very straightforward. I love that it's challenging for her, yet laid out in a way that's easy to teach and requires little planning!

I love the fact that the teaching guide includes teaching instructions, tips and answers in ONE book. The layout makes it easy to teach. I also like the rotation of two weeks of grammar followed by two weeks of writing.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Leann Great explanation of 5 step writing process
The Bob Jones Press English 3 is a great English program. The book alternates every 2 weeks between grammar and writing. The writing portion is what really sold me on the book. As early as 2nd grade, BJU English books focus on the 5 step writing process: planning, drafting, revising, proofreading, and publishing. They assign very interesting writing ideas and give a lot of ideas on how to write well. The revising and proofreading steps have a checklist for the student to go through to think about how the writing could be improved. In English 3, students complete 8 writing assignments, two being writing game instructions and a sound poem. As a homeschooling parent, this curriculum also gave me many tips on how to teach writing.
The grammar portion of the English book has two sections, a guided practice section and an independent practice. A box at the top of the first page of the lesson gives an explanation of the topic addressed.
Each chapter has a chapter review, cumulative review, and a test in a separate test booklet.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Tiffani love it
We used the same worktext for 2nd grade and loved it! It was easy to use. It split up the grammar and writing to help lighten the work load. I really like how it guides the student through the writing process using other students' examples. We were very happy with the product. It looks like the grade 3 text is set up the same way and we look forward to starting our academic year.
