French 1 for Distance Learning

French 1 presents the basics of the French language as spoken in Europe. Students learn greetings, verb conjugations, basic survival vocabulary, pronunciation rules, grammatical structures, and cultural highlights. They develop basic reading and conversational abilities, learning to understand and practically apply the facts rather than simply memorizing them. The instructor presents material primarily in English, using songs, Bible verses, readings on culture, and video supplements.

This course is a recording of a live, interactive course and includes incoming calls from students.

Rated 3 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 3 out of 5 by French I While my student is enjoying the class and the teacher instruction immensely we have been disappointed in a few of aspects of this course. It would be nice to have the vocabulary lists in a workbook received in the book package rather than having to print out with each chapter. The first Bible verse was spoken often and easy to master verbally however subsequent verses have not been offered this way and have been difficult to learn verbally. The online directive suggests that we find a native French person to help us. This is not an easy task. If there are CDs with verses available they should be included in the course package/price and not optional. If they are not available they should be created and utilized with this course. These 2 things alone would have changed my rating from average to excellent in every category except ease of use. The online portion takes time to learn to navigate and once learned is easy but not initially. We have trouble hearing the students that call in. We also have struggled with the grade book as it is not obvious in how to add the extra credit. I understand this portion is currently being changed. The cost seems in line with other courses we have taken but the package materials and video quality have not been as thorough. Overall, we are satisfied with the instruction of the teacher and my student loves learning French. We are thrilled to have a Christian based program! I hope these suggestions might be easy to implement as we would like to order from you again. November 22, 2013
