Mr. Duane Farley, BA, MA

Mr. Duane Farley, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMr. Farley has experience preaching to and teaching high school and adult students (IBE). "Teaching in general is both a challenge and a delight that reaps wonderful benefits. This is certainly the case in regard to teaching the Bible. No other subject is more intellectually stimulating and personally applicable to both teacher and student. I pray that my students will grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ as a result of the high school Bible module series."

Mr. Manuel Mendoza, BA, MA, MDiv

Mr. Manuel Mendoza, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMr. Manuel Mendoza is excited about the privilege of teaching students the Bible. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 14. It wasn’t until he was 21 years old that he knew the Lord’s calling for his life was to preach His Word. "The Bible can convert the soul of the unbeliever, and it cleanses the soul of the believer. The Bible is important for our times, and, therefore, it must be taught accurately. For me, teaching the Bible is a great joy and privilege. My desire is to help guide your student through a life that is pleasing to Jesus Christ. My goal is for the student to strive for holy living by developing sound convictions based on God's Word."

Mr. Barkley May, BA, MA, MDiv

Mr. Barkley May, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMr. May enjoys teaching from God’s Word. "God’s Word is powerful. It convicts, encourages, challenges, and strengthens the believer--and it is still the final and absolute authority for us today. All of God’s Word is just as relevant and applicable to us as it was to those to whom it was originally written. For these reasons it is exciting and challenging to teach the Bible to your student. My goal is that each student will deepen his knowledge of God’s Word, better understand how the Bible applies to him, and grow in his relationship with Christ."

Mr. Michael Murphy, BA, MEd

Mr. Michael Murphy, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMichael Murphy has a bachelor’s degree in history as well as a master’s degree in education with a history emphasis. He has taught World History, United States History, World Geography, and Bible in a traditional classroom for many years. He enjoys coaching mock trial, doing public address at sporting events, and playing golf. But most of all, he enjoys history—both the big themes and little details--and he hopes his students will too as he effectively communicates the course content and infuses a lot of fun into the process.

Miss Rebekah Pringle, BA, MA

Miss Rebekah Pringle, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMiss Pringle's interest in literature began at an early age through her mother's almost daily reading aloud of good literature as a part of her family's school day. The past 10 years of focused study and teaching in the disciplines of Creative Writing and English have increased Miss Pringle's delight and enthusiasm in analyzing and evaluating all genres of literature. “Everyone loves a story. A well-crafted story, poem, essay, or drama delights me on several levels, but it's the benefit of gaining an increased understanding and appreciation of God's inspired literature, His Word, that motivates me to apply and grow in my own literary analysis skills and to do my best to instill in my students a similar desire for and delight in literature. It's my prayer that as we enjoy great literary works together we will be inspired to love and pursue God's truth presented in His greatest Book of literature.”

Mrs. Ginger Ericson, BS, MAT

Mrs. Ginger Ericson, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMrs. Ericson gained her love of science from her own high school biology teacher. After earning a bachelor’s degree in biology from Bob Jones University in 1999, she went on to complete a master’s degree in secondary education. It was also at BJU that she met her husband, Geof, who teaches social studies at Bob Jones Academy. Mrs. Ericson has been a part of BJU Press Distance Learning for over 15 years. While she was finishing her education, she served as an assistant to the biology teacher before coming on as a part of the science faculty. She hopes that through science, her students will see the glory and power of their Creator God and desire to serve Him with their whole heart.

Dr. Lesa Seibert, BS, MEd, EdS, EdD

Dr. Lesa Seibert, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningDr. Seibert has over 15 years teaching experience in Christian education. She has grown up desiring to be a teacher, and she desires to instill in her students a love for learning. Her main goal in teaching grammar is to show how English follows a logical pattern. God’s Word states that "knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth" (Proverbs 14:6). Gaining knowledge is hard when a student does not understand what he is trying to learn. Therefore, understanding is the key to gaining knowledge. In teaching literature, Dr. Seibert desires to show the beauty of the English language in written form. The literary concepts of metaphors, allusions, symbols, etc., increase not only the enjoyment of a written work but also the impact of the message.

Mrs. Tammie Genco, BS, MEd

During that time she met her husband, Tom. They were married in May 2002. Mrs. Genco likes monster trucks, theater, mountains, roller coasters, and teenagers. Her desire for her Algebra and Geometry students is that they will be better equipped to serve Christ after this class.

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by World History I have been homeschooling for the last 15 years and my oldest two children have successfully navigated on to college level work. I have had opportunities to speak at homeschool conventions all across the nation. I teach seminars to beginning homeschoolers as well as seminars on traditional college alternatives. I am an active participant in two large homeschool co-ops, I am a member of a 600 plus-member families state homeschool association, and I have started a homeschool group within my local church. I have never really recommended the BJU curriculum for most of the homeschool families I work with because much of the BJU press material is designed to maximize the traditional classroom learning experience rather than take advantage of the benefits of a home learning environment. It is great for those who want the traditional approach to learning, but has limits for those who choose to use other learning approaches (such as classical, Charlotte Mason, Unit Studies etc.) However, after viewing the new World History distance learning course, I am ecstatic. For the first time, I feel like the press finally "gets" the homeschool environment. The quality of the video is top-notch. I've not seen anything better from any publisher including the secular publishers that are producing cutting edge modern technology for the homeschool. I have personally worked with various publishers and know the homeschool publishing world quite well. This is the best I've seen. It is engaging, direct, fast-paced and full of digestable information. It is NOTHING like the traditional teacher standing in front of a video camera and delivering a lecture. Instead, it has pop up notes, pictures, graphs and easy to follow instruction. Mr. Murphy is engaging and this is totally aimed at the generation of kids who have grown up with games, apps, and video in front of their faces since birth. The lessons are taught in such a way that parents using a classical approach can utilize the information and springboard to their logic or rhetoric stages. Parents using Charlotte Mason's methods can fill their bookshelves with the real and living books that compliment the lessons, and those using other methods can easily adapt the video to garner the best learning environment for their individual homeschool philosophies. If this is the NEW BJU curriculum, then I can wholeheartedly endorse it. My only disappointment is that all of the other demos I watched are still the OLD style and method. I would also love to see them offer these options for parents to purchase and use with all of their children (similar to say the Teaching Textbooks math curriculum). I rated the value at good, because I'm not sure they offer this option. If they did, the value would be excellent. Add those two elements, and I'm sold. And furthermore, I would use my influence to get the word out to other homeschool families to take a look at BJU again. Whoever the genius is behind this new approach, my hats are off to you! Rated 5 out of 5 by Literature Miss Pringle is an articulate intructor who brings the subject matter to life. Taught from a Christian worldview, this course has imparted discernment and is comprehensive in teaching literary analysis, not to mention very well organized. While rigorous, it can be adapted to student's particular needs. I would highly recommend this course to any student! May 6, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by A great curriculum and easy to follow My 10th-grade son has no problems following the course and figuring out what the lessons for the day are. The videos are very informative and helpful. I feel that the instruction of the videos is in depth enough for the student to comprehend. What I like about 10th-grade history is that the video lessons are updated. I hope that soon all grade levels will soon follow. November 1, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by The curriculum requires a lot, but it also gives a lot. This is my first year using BJU Press Online. We have both the 8th and 10th grade curricula. It has taken me a while of working with the "system" to become proficient and utilize the benefits offered through the program. Each class covers a great deal of information in a day and some classes takes several days to complete thoroughly. On the other hand, there is great flexibility and a good resources which allow us to tailor to our needs and still gain a quality education. As the overseer, I needed to have good support and organization to be assured that I was offering the best information to each class, as well as being confident I was tracking the work well. This curriculum has provided both of these needs and I am confident that my children will be prepared for college and beyond. My husband has commented that because of the organization, he can step in to help and be confident he is doing the right thing. May I also note, that the teachers are careful to integrate a love of Christ and the a love for students into their classes which has been unique and treasured. I am pleased when a class opens with prayer or the students are challenged to live godly whether it is French class or Science or Bible. It is a pleasure using this curriculum. November 19, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Honestly- I am very frustrated with this online course . As a busy mom, who has time to read 400 pages of instruction for each course we teach? Your use manual is not user friendly at all. And the website design is amateur and difficult to maneuver through. I often have to go back to the home just to get a little more info on what we are looking at. I have learned via trial and error most of what I need to know to make this work, along with a phone call which was, by the way, VERY helpful. Strengths: comprehensiveness, text, most lectures, The teacher is good but weighs way too much on teaching biblical principles, which we have covered over and over for our high school student. Also- the time involved in using (grading, testing, checking tests, editing out unnecessary work, etc...) this course for my student is immense! There is way too much lecture. Even though I have used BJU for 18 years for some subjects unless it is simplified, I will think twice before using a BJU online course again. December 2, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by It might be just me but the DLO isn't user friendly After using SOS's program for the last three years we switched my son to DLO. The user interface is not as friendly and easy to navigate as SOS. My son and I have had a hard figuring out where everything is, what all is expected each day and how best to go about making sure it all gets done. We are on day 5 and still don't have a good rhythm going. I have printed out the lesson plans for each subject so we not only have a hard copy in front of us but he can then review online what is supposed to be done. I really think the user interface for the DLO needs to be updated with a more user friendly set up. I also don't like how the math work is set up. He does the odd problems and is supposed to check his work and then I check the even. It would be better if there was a practice set up that he could do and then the regular lesson for me to grade instead of having to do every other problem at a time. Oh- And the lessons don't even completely conclude the chapters. Some problems are left unrequired. I do like the content and think the material is very good. I love that the lessons are all set up for us and that there are lecture videos. But, I think a few tweaks need to be made in order to get this program to as high of a quality as the material is.
