Mrs. Sarah Lawson, BS

Mrs. Sarah Lawson, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMrs. Lawson previously taught kindergarten for four years. "One of my goals in teaching is to help your child feel successful at his present level and to encourage him to improve. Throughout the lessons, we talk about simple yet extremely important concepts, such as ‘God made me special,’ and ‘God gave me the Bible.’ I enjoy talking about these things with the children through the lessons. I wanted to be a teacher from the time I was a little girl, and I’m thankful to the Lord for letting me teach your child through this Distance Learning program."

Mrs. Sherri Vick, BS

Mrs. Sherri Vick, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningSherri Vick previously taught various elementary and junior high grades. "I like to look at the picture as a whole—to relate one subject to another so that the child can see how God’s plan fits together. I want the child to want to learn, so the lessons have to be fun. Hands-on is the best way, so I don’t want the student to just watch, but participate too! One of my goals is that, after watching the lessons, your child will continue in the things he has learned and develop lifelong learning skills that he can use both now and in the future."

Mrs. Debra Overly, BS, MS

Mrs. Debra Overly, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMrs. Overly, a mother of three, has experience teaching several elementary grades. "I want to encourage each child to look forward to learning each day and also to provide sufficient practice and review activities to help alleviate mom’s workload. Most importantly, I want to present Christ in each subject that I teach. Each child should hear the gospel and then see in a very practical way how it can change a sinner."

Mrs. Jennifer Cox, BS

Mrs. Jennifer Cox, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMrs. Cox, who previously taught third grade and worked for the BJU Press, continues teaching elementary grades for BJU Press Distance Learning. "Being the mother of three children is quite an education in itself. Dealing with my own children gives me insight into the minds and hearts of young children. I want each child who finishes [a] BJU Press Distance Learning grade to come away with a very sound, excellent education. One way I try to do this is by making each lesson clear and interesting so that the student can grasp the objectives and build on previous knowledge. I want to inspire children to love learning and to understand and believe that only the Christian who trusts God and obeys His Word will live a life filled with blessing and reward."

Mrs. Evanna Walker, BS

Mrs. Evanna Walker, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMrs. Walker has eight years’ experience teaching first grade at Bob Jones Elementary School. “My first love is to teach a child to read-primarily so that he can read God’s Word for himself and share it with others. He should be able to appreciate what he reads, draw conclusions, and make value judgments to become a thinker.”

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent education My son loves the 2nd distance learning program through BJU Press. We started with the K4 distance learning, and just can't seem to find anything more thorough, or well suited for our son. The online portal is user friendly, and has been improved every year, and I have seen how responsive BJU is to reasonable, parental feedback. The curriculum is time tested and incorporates activities for all learning styles. April 28, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Engaging but frustrating Academically, the program is excellent. It covers all the important topics in a smartly organized way, and gives the student all the tools they need to handle new concepts. It's a great mix of learning new things, drilling, review, and playing games. My daughter enjoys the characters, the games they play, and the other things they learn about (Bible verses, construction, countries around the world). When she's not frustrated, she finds the program a lot of fun. However, the program is not super easy to use. There are three problems that frequently frustrate us. First, the video lessons often go too fast for her. She has to pause them frequently or she falls behind. Sometimes they are drilling math facts too quickly for her; other times, they are just setting up materials in a complicated way that takes time. This really frustrates my daughter - it makes her feel like she can't keep up, even if she is working really hard and understands the math concepts perfectly. Second, the book of manipulatives. It's hard to punch out the items, it takes a long time, they often tear, and taking them out leaves a plethora of paper fibers all over the floor. Third, the instructions are fairly disorganized. Often, the website tells me to put the wrong materials in the folder. E.g., some of those materials aren't used; other materials are needed but not listed; or the wrong amount is listed. (For example, it might say she needs 16 Unifix cubes and the number line, when actually she needs 30 cubes and the number packet.) This doesn't happen every day, but it happens often enough to annoy both of us - she has to pause in the middle of a lesson to get me to get more materials. HOWEVER, I will keep using BJU math, because I think it's worth it, despite all the trouble. My daughter loves math and is learning everything she needs to learn. December 2, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by My daughter loves this My daughter loves this curriculum. She is the type of person who loves the structure. I am not that type, so this has helped us to accomplish what she needs, and has relieved the stress in our relationship. The only thing is that the volume is not good. It is very soft, and unless she has headphones on she cant hear it. Hoping its not like this every year. I really want to be able to hear the videos and know where she is while I am feeding the baby in the next room. Melissa October 5, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to Use I have really enjoyed using the Online Distance Learning from BJU Press. The dashboard is easy enough for my 2nd grader to use on his own. All materials needed for each class are listed with each lesson, including pages for extra optional activities for those who want to go beyond and reinforcement materials for those who need extra help. The curriculum is thorough so my son is receiving an excellent education. September 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful way to review over the summer! This is a wonderful review workbook for the summer!! My son and I have really enjoyed the lessons in this workbook all summer. It is usually very difficult to get him to do schoolwork over the summer but he actually wants to do these lessons. I originally decided to get these lessons as a way to introduce my son to the Bob Jones curriculum that his new Christian school is using, but we both quickly learned that they were a fun way to review. Thank you BJU press for providing this wonderful learning tool :-) August 10, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Summer review I have been very pleased with the book. It gives my grandson an overall review without being overwhelming. I intend to continue with this type of review for summers to come. July 7, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great resource! I cannot say how valuable this resource is for our daughter. The pages are fun to do and she enjoys the theme throughout each week's assignments. Doing these exercises during the summer reinforces the skills and concepts she developed in 2nd grade. Doing this over the summer has helped tremendously in retaining information for the beginning of the next year. This is the second year using this resource in the summer and I will plan to continue to purchase these every summer. Thanks for a great resource and you won't go wrong purchasing this for your child. June 26, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love it My kids enjoy watching the videos and doing the activities. It is a time saver to have some subjects that do Not require a lot of prep and planning from me. April 2, 2014
