Mrs. Sarah Lawson, BS

Mrs. Sarah Lawson, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMrs. Lawson previously taught kindergarten for four years. "One of my goals in teaching is to help your child feel successful at his present level and to encourage him to improve. Throughout the lessons, we talk about simple yet extremely important concepts, such as ‘God made me special,’ and ‘God gave me the Bible.’ I enjoy talking about these things with the children through the lessons. I wanted to be a teacher from the time I was a little girl, and I’m thankful to the Lord for letting me teach your child through this Distance Learning program."

Mrs. Sherri Vick, BS

Mrs. Sherri Vick, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningSherri Vick previously taught various elementary and junior high grades. "I like to look at the picture as a whole—to relate one subject to another so that the child can see how God’s plan fits together. I want the child to want to learn, so the lessons have to be fun. Hands-on is the best way, so I don’t want the student to just watch, but participate too! One of my goals is that, after watching the lessons, your child will continue in the things he has learned and develop lifelong learning skills that he can use both now and in the future."

Mrs. Debra Overly, BS, MS

Mrs. Debra Overly, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMrs. Overly, a mother of three, has experience teaching several elementary grades. "I want to encourage each child to look forward to learning each day and also to provide sufficient practice and review activities to help alleviate mom’s workload. Most importantly, I want to present Christ in each subject that I teach. Each child should hear the gospel and then see in a very practical way how it can change a sinner."

Mrs. Jennifer Cox, BS

Mrs. Jennifer Cox, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMrs. Cox, who previously taught third grade and worked for the BJU Press, continues teaching elementary grades for BJU Press Distance Learning. "Being the mother of three children is quite an education in itself. Dealing with my own children gives me insight into the minds and hearts of young children. I want each child who finishes [a] BJU Press Distance Learning grade to come away with a very sound, excellent education. One way I try to do this is by making each lesson clear and interesting so that the student can grasp the objectives and build on previous knowledge. I want to inspire children to love learning and to understand and believe that only the Christian who trusts God and obeys His Word will live a life filled with blessing and reward."

Mrs. Evanna Walker, BS

Mrs. Evanna Walker, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMrs. Walker has eight years’ experience teaching first grade at Bob Jones Elementary School. “My first love is to teach a child to read-primarily so that he can read God’s Word for himself and share it with others. He should be able to appreciate what he reads, draw conclusions, and make value judgments to become a thinker.”

Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic My kids love BJU online! They are getting quality education and integrating the Word of God at the same time! February 3, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love it! We love it! I have children in K, 2nd, and 4th grade. All of them are using the online videos and they are fantastic! Saves me a ton of work and I enjoy the facilitator online grade book to keep up with their grades. September 30, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Educational and Entertaining! This program is an answer to prayer for us! My daughter is a right brain visual learner and this curriculum has worked beautifully with her. The puppets, skits and computer graphics hold her interest and the teachers do a great job of presenting the subject matter to the children. My only small complaint is that I find the teachers materials a bit confusing and sometimes difficult to locate. I wish all the appendix pages and teacher material for each subject were in a workbook form and could just be torn out in order. I probably just need to be better organized. Also, a suggested grading scale with the test answer keys would be nice. September 28, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by The book was a blessing and exactly what was needed. The activity skills, nonfiction readings, story starters, and art were motivating to my student and were a pleasure for me to share. September 9, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Just what we needed The Vacation Station was just what we needed. The layout was simple and easy to follow. My kiddos love the "check off" system for both them and me. My son loved the math and my daughter loved the short stories. July 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Rising third grader We use this book and the handwriting book for my son to "earn" his computer time. It's an excellent review of the skills that he was taught during the school year. The math problems are generally presented in the "old fashioned" way in which I learned them and not the way that my son learned in school. This caused a few hiccups in the beginning, but as soon as I explained to him how to do it and pointed out that the old way actually makes much more sense, he was fine! July 7, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent education My son loves the 2nd distance learning program through BJU Press. We started with the K4 distance learning, and just can't seem to find anything more thorough, or well suited for our son. The online portal is user friendly, and has been improved every year, and I have seen how responsive BJU is to reasonable, parental feedback. The curriculum is time tested and incorporates activities for all learning styles. April 28, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Engaging but frustrating Academically, the program is excellent. It covers all the important topics in a smartly organized way, and gives the student all the tools they need to handle new concepts. It's a great mix of learning new things, drilling, review, and playing games. My daughter enjoys the characters, the games they play, and the other things they learn about (Bible verses, construction, countries around the world). When she's not frustrated, she finds the program a lot of fun. However, the program is not super easy to use. There are three problems that frequently frustrate us. First, the video lessons often go too fast for her. She has to pause them frequently or she falls behind. Sometimes they are drilling math facts too quickly for her; other times, they are just setting up materials in a complicated way that takes time. This really frustrates my daughter - it makes her feel like she can't keep up, even if she is working really hard and understands the math concepts perfectly. Second, the book of manipulatives. It's hard to punch out the items, it takes a long time, they often tear, and taking them out leaves a plethora of paper fibers all over the floor. Third, the instructions are fairly disorganized. Often, the website tells me to put the wrong materials in the folder. E.g., some of those materials aren't used; other materials are needed but not listed; or the wrong amount is listed. (For example, it might say she needs 16 Unifix cubes and the number line, when actually she needs 30 cubes and the number packet.) This doesn't happen every day, but it happens often enough to annoy both of us - she has to pause in the middle of a lesson to get me to get more materials. HOWEVER, I will keep using BJU math, because I think it's worth it, despite all the trouble. My daughter loves math and is learning everything she needs to learn. December 2, 2014
