K5 for Distance Learning

About the Courses

K5 Distance Learning teaches kindergarteners to apply their natural curiosity and start to develop a broad base of interests and gives them the basic tools they need to explore the world around them. Bible stories taught by Mrs. White spark an early interest in God's Word. In K5 Beginnings, Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Lawson teach listening, oral composition, phonics, and reading comprehension while integrating art, science, and heritage studies concepts. K5 Math with Mrs. Franklin focuses on teaching number sense and uses manipulatives to explain basic math functions such as numbers, measurement, time, and money.

Bible Truths K5

Lessons emphasize the importance of God's Word and Creation and chronologically focus on Bible people ranging from Abraham to the apostle Paul, including the life of Christ.

Mrs. Sarah Lawson, BS

Mrs. Sarah Lawson, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMrs. Lawson previously taught kindergarten for four years. "One of my goals in teaching is to help your child feel successful at his present level and to encourage him to improve. Throughout the lessons, we talk about simple yet extremely important concepts, such as ‘God made me special,’ and ‘God gave me the Bible.’ I enjoy talking about these things with the children through the lessons. I wanted to be a teacher from the time I was a little girl, and I’m thankful to the Lord for letting me teach your child through this Distance Learning program."

Mrs. Andrea Lindstrom Hall, BS

Miss Andrea Lindstrom, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMrs. Hall (formerly Miss Lindstrom) has three years’ experience teaching in a first-grade classroom. "Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved school and loved learning. It is exciting to work with young children because they are naturally curious and are interested in many things. I want to encourage a child’s natural curiosity, and I want to develop in him a desire to learn for life. I want him to learn not just to acquire knowledge but to use his knowledge to serve and honor the Lord."

Her goal for each child is that he would come to know Christ personally in salvation and be changed to greater Christlikeness through his understanding of the Scriptures. "I thank the Lord for the opportunity to teach His Word to such moldable and precious young lives. I am also grateful to the Lord for enabling me by His grace to work in such a ministry."

Mrs. Evanna Walker, BS

Rated 4 out of 5 by Confusing to start the program I will admit my background is in business and this is my first time to try homeschooling. I ordered the online program with all the textbooks. I was disappointed when I opened the box and then had no instructions about how to start. I feel like the last two weeks I have spent many hours stumbling around figuring things out. A master guide that says: create login, watch orientation video, mom's minutes, cut out characters, pop out manipulatives. . .etc would have been a huge help. My other recommendation would be to have a master list that says what you will need for the year: 3 ring folders, crayons, glue, zip lock bags, popsicle sticks. . . Instead of having to go through each subject and coming up with a list. Or better still charge an optional extra fee and include all necessary materials. I was impressed with the videos. They pack bible truths in with all the subjects. My daughter loves watching them. Every day she is excited to start her new video. I know she will learn a lot this year; I just wish they made it a litter easier for parents who are new to the program. July 5, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Our parents appreciate having the review books for the summer. We've had good feedback about the Vacation Stations and parents appreciate having books to follow-up with and reinforce what their children learned during the school year. July 5, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love My boys actually love doing their workbooks! I thought it was going to be hard to motivate them to do school work in the Summer, but this is just two pages a day, plus reading and they actually ask to do their pages! I will definitely use Vacation Stations again next Summer. I highly recommend this workbook! June 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent experience We are on week four and we are absolutely loving this program. it is thorough, fun and teaches the kids in a manner that is easy to understand, but doesn't bore them either. We are having a great time! I recommend it to all my friends! September 16, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by I used this to keep my grand daughter caught up during the summer. It was a great way to stay on track. Great way to keep kids on track with their skills during the summer August 22, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by YAY! I wanted something that my children can do independently while i'm pregnant(I need more rest during this part of my life). I wanted it to be beneficial for them(not just watching tv). This book, that a friend from church told me about, was such a blessing. The kids really enjoy them and like marking off their progress each day and week. :) I'm VERY pleased with this book! :) June 27, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by It works! My son learned so much with the daily 1 hour k-4 last year! This year we are on lesson 15 in K-5. The transition period only lasted a few lessons as K-5 is about 1 1/2 hours. A few lessons into K-5, my son asked if he could watch K-4 instead. So I knew K-5 was more challenging. I let him watch K-4 those few days he asked as we still had 30 unwatched lessons and 3 months till K-4 online ended. Then to better help with the transition, I let him watch Beginnings one day and the Bible and Math the next day. That helped a lot. He will work his way up to the 3 daily videos. I love this program! Rated 4 out of 5 by This is a great way to keep the material fresh in their minds! I am using Vacation Stations with my soon to be first grader this summer. While she drags her feet to do it, she usually ends up doing well at it. It has a good balance between keeping her sharp on things shes learned in K-5, but not being so hard that she gives up. I did notice that she stumbles when they use different letter type than the pre-cursive letters that she learned to write her letters in. I am there to help her, though, and I realize that library books will also have different fonts. I also find that she has a hard time when they make the letters or numbers smaller (about 1/3 the size) than what she is supposed to write on the line. She really relies on those handwriting guidelines to help her form her numbers and letters. My other daughter would not have found this hard at all, but for some children, it may cause them some confusion. That said, I love that BJU makes these books available for students on all the same material (math concepts, grammer concepts, etc) that they previously learned. Its amazing how quickly they can forget, so this enables them to review during the summer and hit the ground running in the fall. I will continue to use these books with both my girls (rising first grader and rising fifth grader). July 28, 2014
