This is my 1st year using BJU with my 4th grade students. At first I was very opposed to a workbook that appears not to support much of the common core curriculum. However, after using the math workbook for 2 months, I quite like it. My daily math session: hands on activity with manipulatives + BJU workbook for practice. One page for class work; one page for homework. The students love this formula. So do I. In general, the workbook pages are pretty easy to figure out. The students get that paper/pencil practice they need. There isn't anything tricky about the problems; it's straight-forward practice. I would like to see more challenging story problems, and more of them per chapter. This book is appropriate for medium or low level math students. It is far too easy & simple for higher level math students.

Honestly, I like the curriculum. Because I receive these submissions often, I'd like to not have to write 50+ words.
I think the daily review sections are too easy. I think there needs to be harder multiplication problems.
I like the math review books.

With the manipulative being nothing more than a glossy posterboard material I feel the quality is poor.

Overall, I find this curriculum easy to use and quite understandable to the students. I do think that some of the lessons are a little too easy for 4th graders. I often combine 2 of the simpler lessons into the same day to avoid boredom. I also would like to see the Reviews on the CD as printables rather than in a workbook, because I don't always use all of them and I hate to see the paper being wasted.

The student's worktext's format is colorful and neat. It has informative examples and does not put too much on a page. I also like that it includes word problems on most pages. The teacher's manual is organized where one can tell at a glance what is taught that lesson and what materials are needed. It is a clean and clear presentation. The only thing I don't like is that the answer key is small - too small for old eyes.

My son loves this Math. He enjoys the stories at the beginning of each chapter. The concepts are taught in an easy-to-follow manner.

I'm very glad we switched to bju. It's solid and sometimes heavy but it only adds to practice.

This is an excellent curriculum. I'm finding that my student is gaining a better understanding of numbers already! I especially love the "Teach for Understanding" section that is done before the student is doing a worksheet from the textbook. This part of the teacher's guidebook is excellent for helping the teacher know if the student really understands the concept yet. Lots of questions are provided so the teacher can know what to ask the student! Very helpful!
