Rated 5 out of 5 by Math grade 5 worktext is excellent I am very pleased with the grade 5 Math worktext. I looked at several math textbooks from Saxon, to McGraw-Hill, to Singapore Math (and many, many more!) but each failed to deliver to my high expectations. I wanted a textbook that would not only build foundations for each mathematical concept, but continue to build on that foundation with review and subject-reinforncement throughout the course work. The lessons are excellent and correlate nicely with Mathnasium's teaching philosophy, and the Daily and Cumulative Review sections in each chapter help reinforce and build upon what has been and is being learned. I highly recommend this textbook. I plan on using the grade 6 edition next school year. March 18, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Color Me Beautiful I'm a professor turned teacher, and I've seen a lot of textbooks in my life. I like this book, and the student edition is not overpriced. Yet I wonder how much of the price of this book is due to the colored ink that embellishes every page. The biblical integration, the newest buzzword in Christian education, wastes page after page talking about piloting. Just the facts, please. Consider college math textbooks, that teach so much without all this expensive color, and stick to the subject material. I'm a Christian, but I still think that we should concentrate on academic excellence, something that seems to be lacking on occasion in Christian presses. Yes, God created all this. Yes, we can help mankind, excuse me, humankind, by fulfilling our dominion mandate. But too much effort is spent on a spiritual agenda. I see this in Christian schools where I've taught, by the way. Math is math. Let's remind students that God is Creator, and get on with math. Save career goals for the guidance counseling office, and preaching the dominion mandate for chapels. Too much academics gets cast by the wayside when we try to do too much church and school at the same time in math and science classes. January 4, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Could Stand Improvement I'm a professor turned teacher, and I've seen a lot of textbooks in my life. I'm not impressed with this teacher's edition at all. I'm starting it for homeschooling, so I've got a long way to go. The answers for textbook pages 23-24 are missing. The font for the answers is too small. This is an expensive book, as textbook and teacher's editions usually are, but how much of the money goes to colored ink? The biblical integration, the newest buzzword in Christian education, wastes page after page talking about piloting. Just the facts, please. Consider college math textbooks, that teach so much without all this expensive color, and stick to the subject material. I'm a Christian, but I still think that we should concentrate on academic excellence, something that seems to be lacking on occasion in Christian presses. Yes, God created all this. Yes, we can help mankind, excuse me, humankind, by fulfilling our dominion mandate. But let's write answer keys with font large enough for someone like me who teaches all day and homeschools math in the evening. The colors and stories and career goals are dessert. January 4, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Poor Quality With the manipulative being nothing more than a glossy posterboard material I feel the quality is poor. December 20, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Math 5 This makes the third year that I have been homeschooling. I switched to this curriculum, because I felt the program that we had been using went too fast. This also goes fast, but there are more problems and more review. There is also a daily review, which helps to reinforce the concepts for retention. I am pleased I switched. October 3, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by I have only used BJU for my son's maths. I rate it highly compared with other Primary School age maths books on the market. I like the academic thoroughness, colour and layout of the BJU Maths books for the primary years. Also the chapter and cumulative reviews. I would suggest larger working spaces and extra cumulative review pages as my only improvements. Many thanks (and looking forward to many more years with BJU!) April 29, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great! Love this T.E. For my 5th grader! Just wish it would be included with the DVD kit instead of having to purchase separately. November 7, 2014
