Rated 4 out of 5Â by Dan1492 A Helpful Worktext
One of the challenges of reading class is being able to evaluate student progress and encouragement active involvement. The reading workbook provides an outlet for the students to express what they have learned through reading the stories in the textbook. There are also a number of exercises in basic phonetic and grammar principles. It is also helpful to the teacher that the student can do most of the work in this workbook by himself.
I believe this is a worthwhile book for anyone teaching the BJU Reading 2 book, as an outlet for the students to be more involved than just saying the words in the text (which sometimes they did not fully understand).
My only complaint is that the pages (supposedly designed for easy removal) tend to fall out of the cover, and - while they are not as loose as the English workbooks - they lack the 3-ring binder holes so are very difficult to manage when the "book" becomes a stack of papers.

We are happy with the content, but the binding of this book is terrible. It is made to easily lay flat and pull pages out, but the cover detached from the rest of the book within a week of use. Additionally, the pages tear out far too easily...even when we try to turn one page at a time, it comes loose. Would love for BJU to change the glue used for binding these books.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Steph Just what we needed!
I had tried another manufacturer for my son's 1st grade work. I was overwhelmed and confused by the teacher's manuals once I received them. And within a few short weeks my son was so bored with the readers he didn't want to read them and it was a struggle. There was no workbook to go along with the readers either. This workbook is fantastic! He loves the bright colorful pictures and the ease of use. Just what we needed after a bad experience. I'll be using this next year for my son and daughter!

My daughter can usually read the directions with little or no help and it is suited for her age.

I love the reading material for all the early level readers. The workbook helps so much with phonics instruction, It also helps me to gain insight into my children's understanding of the story they have read. It is very well produced and easy to use each day, without spending hours on preparation.

Rated 3 out of 5Â by curls It is helpful at the beginning of the second grade school year for reviewing phonics and reading comprehension.
The Bob Jones Reading Worktext is helpful at the beginning of the second grade school year for reviewing phonics and reading comprehension. 2 As the students progress in their reading skills, I have to supplement with other ways to assess their comprehension and higher order thinking skills. In a way, the students outgrow the worktext as it is too simple for them by the second semester. If our school did not have a separate phonics curriculum, I may have used more of the pages for phonics reinforcement, so it might be helpful for a school that has a combined reading and phonics curriculum with Bob Jones.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Kris Great overall phonics curriculum
I have used this book for my older two boys and am using it again with my third boy. I feel it's very strong in teaching phonics with fun characters too! I have used this because I feel it has given my children a solid foundation in phonics and reading. I would highly recommend this to others.

Rated 2 out of 5Â by parent Not what I expected
I feel this curriculum is very basic. Borderline grade level. The questions are not challenging and I found 2 errors within 2 pages of each other. There is a heavy biblical focus, which is slightly more than what I expected. The pictures in the book are from the 70's or 80's and very dated. Not appealing to the reader.
