One of the challenges of reading class is being able to evaluate student progress and encouragement active involvement. The reading workbook provides an outlet for the students to express what they have learned through reading the stories in the textbook. There are also a number of exercises in basic phonetic and grammar principles. It is also helpful to the teacher that the student can do most of the work in this workbook by himself.
I believe this is a worthwhile book for anyone teaching the BJU Reading 2 book, as an outlet for the students to be more involved than just saying the words in the text (which sometimes they did not fully understand).
My only complaint is that the pages (supposedly designed for easy removal) tend to fall out of the cover, and - while they are not as loose as the English workbooks - they lack the 3-ring binder holes so are very difficult to manage when the "book" becomes a stack of papers.

We are happy with the content, but the binding of this book is terrible. It is made to easily lay flat and pull pages out, but the cover detached from the rest of the book within a week of use. Additionally, the pages tear out far too easily...even when we try to turn one page at a time, it comes loose. Would love for BJU to change the glue used for binding these books.

Love BJU! This reader is no exception. I do think they are a little pricey but worth it.

I've been using BJU Press Reading 2 for 7 years. The content is great. This was the first year I received the workbooks and the bindings have changed, and not for the better from my teaching perspective. The bindings were updated to make it easier to pull the pages out. Now ALL the pages fall out all the time. It's a constant struggle to keep the work books together and tidy. There are holes for inserting the workbooks into a 3-ringed binder but if I have to buy a binder then why not just have them attached in the original binding better? The cover hasn't stayed on since the first use. It would be nice if BJU press either offered loose pages for those who want them or bound workbooks.

If there was anything I would change about the BJU Reading 2 is that the binding on the workbook not be meant to tear out the pages. We homeschool and I do not like having pages falling out all the time. Last year it was not even 2 weeks and there were pages falling out. This year I went and paid $4.00 to have the book spiral bound. Just a thought for BJU... Otherwise my son really enjoys the stories and pictures!!!

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Steph Just what we needed!
I had tried another manufacturer for my son's 1st grade work. I was overwhelmed and confused by the teacher's manuals once I received them. And within a few short weeks my son was so bored with the readers he didn't want to read them and it was a struggle. There was no workbook to go along with the readers either. This workbook is fantastic! He loves the bright colorful pictures and the ease of use. Just what we needed after a bad experience. I'll be using this next year for my son and daughter!

My 2nd grader enjoys the stories from the reader. He is eager to read the next one and also will do the cooresponding workbook pages without much fuss. This is a great product.
