Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by BJU The BJU curriculum has been fantastic for my 6th grader. She works independently though each of the subjects and can’t wait to come and share with me what she has learned. She especially enjoys Mrs. Vick (she is wonderful with her examples and explanations). The teaching aspects from a biblical perspective were very important to me and meets all by expectations. It takes her about 5 hours a day which allows us to do extras like museums and art classes. February 13, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by These classes are VERY dated. My sixth grader was born in 2001. Several of these classes were FILMED in 2001. The science class (filmed in 2004) has a unit on earthquakes that includes a discussion of tsunamis but does not include any discussion the incredibly devastating and important Indonesian tsunami in 2008. The teachers have big hair and weird clothes. The kids don't look like real children to whom my child can relate. I bought the entire curriculum, but I am only using the DVDs in science and in handwriting (and in that class only for the calligraphy portions). We are using BJU press books (except math - which was WAY too easy for my student), but I am doing all of the teaching. I think this would be a good value if some of the courses weren't over a decade old, but in its current form, I simply cannot recommend the DVDs for distance learning. They are dated and hokey and odd. The books are pretty good - although spelling needs updating (there even the book is showing its age). I don't see how Bob Jones University can continue to sell this curriculum without updating. Before you buy, ask when the DVDs for your grade were recorded. I don't think anything recorded before 2009 should be sold in 2013. February 11, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love thisprogram We have been using the DVD lessons from BJU for 5 years now (we have children from Grade 1-9)...and we had previously tried quite a number of curriculums and cannot speak highly enough of this program. It is fairly intense but the quality is outstanding (both in presentation and matter). February 12, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Product! After trying multiple writing curricula, I decided to try bjupress English, and I'm so glad I did. It's the answer to my prayer, and I couldn't be more pleased. My 4th and 6th graders have learned a tremendous amount of grammar and have quickly grasped and embraced the writing process thanks to Mrs. Overly's engaging, thorough and effective teaching. I love how the grammar lessons are directly applied in the writing lessons that follow them. This method clearly demonstrates why grammar is so important and how the two (grammar and writing) go together. I will never teach grammar and writing separately again! Mrs. Overly is such a kind, godly woman. She's extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I am so impressed with her expertise. Also, unlike myself, since she is a teacher on DVD, she is always perfectly prepared and never moody! ;-) I love the flexibility of DVD's because we can watch the lessons anywhere in the house on any t.v. or computer. I think it's wonderful that the DVD teacher teaches directly to the homeschool student as opposed to teaching a classroom full of children with a video camera set up in the back of the room as some curriculum providers do it. The bjupress teacher is able to focus all of her instruction on the homeschool student, and no time is wasted. We have really enjoyed the themes, game shows and the "virtual field trips' as we call them. This adds some fun to the mix. The video lessons are 15 minutes in length, so it takes us approximately 30 -45 minutes to complete a lesson. In the 4th grade course, completing a lesson usually takes 30 minutes. In the 6th grade course, it usually takes a little longer, more like 30 - 45 minutes. There was a time when I wondered if my children were being adequately prepared for high school and ultimately college, but now I feel confident that they are receiving the best education possible. I would highly recommend the English DVD with Books Distance Learning Kit. It's definitely worth every penny...and then some! February 11, 2013
