I have been teaching this curriculum for years and trusted BJU press to do their best to investigate/research and go to the best sources for their information. I am appalled to know that I have been teaching precisely what is written on p. 171 of the American Republic, third edition, about Thomas Jefferson and the alleged Bible he has been accused of writing. It is a misrepresentation of the facts, as is the teaching that he was the most secular of founding fathers and a Deist. What primary documentation did you rely on to make these claims (because there is no bibliography attached with this text)...the revisionists of the last 100 years or Jefferson's own communications? The so called Jefferson Bible was printed 78 years after his death, using an original manuscript which Jefferson entitled "The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth..extracted textually from the Gospels in Greek, Latin , French and English. It contained not one word of commentary or opinion by him. It was an exercise or discipline for the man, which was careful to include word for word chapter and verse quotes and citations. The 1908 version printed "for Congress" and renamed "The Jefferson Bible" omitted the Bible chapters and verses and the text was rewritten in narrative form giving the false impression that Jefferson was attempting to write his own Bible. His original "Big Bible" (according to Captain Edmond Bacon) was not included in the donation to the Library of Congress because it was his personal daily companion Bible, a complete King James version. It can still be seen at the University of Virginia archives housed in Monticello. I'm disappointed because I trusted you to do the research of the original documents and give us the true Christian heritage of our founding fathers. My sources for this critique come from the book, "The Truth about the Founding Fathers of the American Republic" by Dr. Catherine Millard, and show photographic prints of the original documents and communications. I urge you to review her work and make revisions to your very important textbook, which is being taught to Christian youth all over this country.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lola It is easy to teach.
I find it very easy to teach. I haven't been buying the teacher text...it sure would have saved time if I had purchased it before. My daughter understands it so much easier and moves through the subject quickly. We have saved so much time by having a teacher's book. :0)

Rated 5 out of 5 by LRiley My son enjoyed learning history for the first time
Very comprehensive material. The unit sections were just the right length for my son to read and answer the quiz questions on a daily basis. The CD which comes with the curriculum has helpful sheets. I did not purchase, nor have I needed, the companion Activity Book. I google additional resources if I need to supplement. The teacher's manual is a "must". I also purchased the tests which I don't think are mandatory to gain the full benefit of the curriculum but my son likes to see grades on papers/tests.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jane Easy to use test key. Answers are provided with page location of the information required to understand the question.
I appreciate the page numbers listed with the answers.
That saves a lot of time when we go back to review why an answer was marked incorrect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by dnabarlow Very nice enhancement...nicer if it were in text as separately it gets forgotten!
We enjoy the historical articles in the Student Activities Manual & the maps are excellent practice as are the chapter reviews in here. But it would be nice if the maps were in the student worksheets & the articles & chapter reviews were in the textbook instead. We tend to forget the activities manual...not to mention it's often a lot of extra work in an already lengthy subject!
This isn't necessary for your course (except the maps in it!), but is a nice enhancement, particularly the historic articles which then have comprehension questions afterwards...which could be skipped if you don't need work on comprehension. If there's no chapter review, I'll have them do the review in here. The maps in here are a must, though...so if you don't have the activities manual, you'll need to get maps somewhere yourself!

As always, BJU Press has produced a quality course. I use their materials with no hesitation. They're easy to use; in fact, they do my thinking for me many times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Martia Great grammar/writing workbook
As an overseas/ homeschool mom of four, I have been very pleased with Bob Jones curriculum. This grammar book is very complete. The book not only is teaching grammar, but the sentences and paragraphs that are evaluated are full of interesting and wholesome information.
