Mrs. Sarah Lawson, BS

Mrs. Sarah Lawson, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMrs. Lawson previously taught kindergarten for four years. "One of my goals in teaching is to help your child feel successful at his present level and to encourage him to improve. Throughout the lessons, we talk about simple yet extremely important concepts, such as ‘God made me special,’ and ‘God gave me the Bible.’ I enjoy talking about these things with the children through the lessons. I wanted to be a teacher from the time I was a little girl, and I’m thankful to the Lord for letting me teach your child through this Distance Learning program."

Mrs. Evanna Walker, BS

Mrs. Evanna Walker, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMrs. Walker has eight years’ experience teaching first grade at Bob Jones Elementary School. “My first love is to teach a child to read-primarily so that he can read God’s Word for himself and share it with others. He should be able to appreciate what he reads, draw conclusions, and make value judgments to become a thinker.”

Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent program Teachers are great. I was impressed how much my son learned through this program. September 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent We love this curriculum. The teachers are engaging and the content is great. I couldn't find any information regarding how much work is involved for the parent so I'll share my thoughts for anyone else who is wondering the same thing. There is quite a bit of prep work, honestly. But it can mostly all be completed before you start, at the beginning of the year. There are things to color and laminate and cut out, the math manipulatives must be punched out and bagged, etc. However, you cannot beat BJU Press for their organization. They have made everything as simple as possible, you just have to do some prep work in the beginning. They supply you with a list of everything you will need for the entire year so you can gather up anything you don't have on hand. I found that very helpful. Also, the Moms Minutes for each lesson are presented by the teacher to let you know what your child will be learning that day (example: the day they discuss smoke detectors, the teacher lets you know to expect your child to ask about them) and what supplies you need to have available. This information is also provided in written format, but I like to watch the short Moms Minutes because the teachers show you finished crafts and projects so you can see what they should look like. So, there is quite a bit of prep work for mom at the beginning, but then through the year it is very manageable and easy to keep up with. And best of all, it's fun and your child will learn so much! Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent content My daughter loved this program. The teachers and other guests are very engaging and the content is wonderful. My main recommendation would be to upgrade filming the next batch of videos in high definition since technology is evolving quickly. The hard paper worksheets and schedules are also being upgraded, which will help the ease of pulling it all together each day. July 18, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Was hoping this was a good program I would like for BJU to know this is the most confusing and difficult program. I am just starting out with homeschooling my little one and wished I would have chosen a different program. The mom's minutes, the printed mom's minutes are listed wrong. The teacher in the bible section, you can hardly hear her, so we can't use that section. The math teacher does not know her colors and she is teaching my child them and she can't get them right. Hopefully someone will sit down and wright out all the wrongs with this program and let you know, so you can fix all the problems. September 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very well done My kids have all used BJU K-5 and have learned so much. I love how the beginnings program incorporates so many subjects into it. I also love that they introduce sounds in an order that the kids can start reading simple words right away and not get bored with it all. My only draw back is that there is a lot of different manipulatives every day to gather and put together. Which is fun for the kids but a lot for me sometimes since I have to prepare material for 7 kids all different grades and have 3 little ones too. Overall though it is wonderful. Thanks August 6, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by This is a great way to keep the material fresh in their minds! I am using Vacation Stations with my soon to be first grader this summer. While she drags her feet to do it, she usually ends up doing well at it. It has a good balance between keeping her sharp on things shes learned in K-5, but not being so hard that she gives up. I did notice that she stumbles when they use different letter type than the pre-cursive letters that she learned to write her letters in. I am there to help her, though, and I realize that library books will also have different fonts. I also find that she has a hard time when they make the letters or numbers smaller (about 1/3 the size) than what she is supposed to write on the line. She really relies on those handwriting guidelines to help her form her numbers and letters. My other daughter would not have found this hard at all, but for some children, it may cause them some confusion. That said, I love that BJU makes these books available for students on all the same material (math concepts, grammer concepts, etc) that they previously learned. Its amazing how quickly they can forget, so this enables them to review during the summer and hit the ground running in the fall. I will continue to use these books with both my girls (rising first grader and rising fifth grader). July 28, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Keeping things simple The Education Director from my daughter's school recommended this tool for summer engagement. I am pleased with the simpliciity and ease of use for both of us. She will work on her two pages each day and color the reading opportunities. I review her work at the end of the day and discuss what she thought was easy or difficult. I enjoy the conversation that can come about using this tool and knowing that she is keeping a steady check on subject matter she already has a grasp on will hopefully keep her prepared for walking into the door of her 1st grade classroom this fall. Rated 5 out of 5 by Good Beginnings. This is our first year homeschooling. My kindergartener looks forward to his DVD's everyday. He loves Math the best so far! He learned his teachers names right away and really seems to respond well to them. I love how simple concepts are presented in so many different ways. So far it is going great! I am looking forward to seeing the progress during the year. Thanks! August 20, 2013
