Spanish 1 for Distance Learning

Spanish 1 presents the basics of the Spanish language as spoken in Latin America . Students learn greetings, verb conjugations, basic vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammatical structures and get a glimpse of the Spanish-speaking world as a mission field. Students develop a beginning reading and conversational ability, laying the foundation for further study of the language. The course emphasizes understanding and practical application rather than rote memory. Students should have a basic understanding of English grammar before beginning this course.

About the Instructor

Mr. J.D. Cancino, BA

Mr. J. D. Cancino, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance Learning J.D. Cancino was born in Mexico. Soon after moving to the U.S. at the age of 15, he came to know Christ as his personal Savior. At Bob Jones University , Mr. Cancino completed a BA in Bible, and he is currently working on a Master of Divinity degree. As a graduate assistant, he served at BJ LINC in the Spanish Department. He developed a love for languages as he learned English, took courses in Spanish as a second language, and studied Biblical ancient languages. Mr. Cancino met his wife, Renee, at BJU, and they were married in 2001. He desires to see his students understand the usefulness of Spanish for serving the Lord in any facet of life. His favorite verse is Ephesians 1:3, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ."
