Mrs. Overly, a mother of three, has experience teaching several elementary grades. "I want to encourage each child to look forward to learning each day and also to provide sufficient practice and review activities to help alleviate mom’s workload. Most importantly, I want to present Christ in each subject that I teach. Each child should hear the gospel and then see in a very practical way how it can change a sinner."
After graduating from Bob Jones University in 1987, Cynthia Bullock went on to teach history in Virginia, Michigan, Florida, and North Carolina. It was in Michigan that she met her husband, who was the math teacher in the Christian school where they served together for 17 years. They have four children, three girls and a boy. She took ten years off to stay home with them since three of the four are profoundly deaf. When they mainstreamed into a normal classroom, she returned to the classroom. The Lord led her here to BJU Press Distance Learning in 2011.
“I'm so excited about having your child as my student. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to serve you by coming along side and lightening your load.”
Mrs. Walker has 38 years of teaching experience in traditional classrooms and via distance learning. “My first love is to teach a child to read-primarily so that he can read God’s Word for himself and share it with others. He should be able to appreciate what he reads, draw conclusions, and make value judgments to become a thinker.”
Mr. Snow grew up in a pastor’s home that encouraged service for Christ and saw the need for a solid, Christian education. His parents often sacrificed to see that each of their children was in a Christian school or that they were homeschooled with Christian curriculum. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in history and a Master’s degree in secondary education, he began teaching in Christian schools. In the past twenty years he has served as a Christian school teacher and principal, and God has allowed him to instruct students in history, grammar, literature, and Bible. Mr. Snow also enjoys reading and he is always in search of new books or stories to read. In Explorations in Literature, Mr. Snow desires to pass along his passion for a solid Christian education as well as his love of reading and understanding literature.
Mrs. Ericson gained her love of science from her own high school biology teacher. After earning a bachelor’s degree in biology from Bob Jones University in 1999, she went on to complete a master’s degree in secondary education. It was also at BJU that she met her husband, Geof, who teaches social studies at Bob Jones Academy. Mrs. Ericson has been a part of BJU Press Distance Learning for over 15 years. While she was finishing her education, she served as an assistant to the biology teacher before coming on as a part of the science faculty. She hopes that through science, her students will see the glory and power of their Creator God and desire to serve Him with their whole heart.
Mr. Ken Matesevac has a BS in Mathematics Education as well as an MS in Educational Leadership. He has taught and tutored students in various levels of math. With the Lord’s help, he desires that the students will be successful in their Distance Learning courses.
Mrs. Aida Kuhlewind grew up in Venezuela where her parents are missionaries. She has a BS in Elementary Education and Bible and an MS in Biblical Counseling and has almost completed course work for an MS in Education. She has taught students in various grade levels and is excited about the opportunity to teach students through Distance Learning.
Bill Harmon has loved science for as long as he can remember. After completing his B.S. in Chemistry, he returned to Florida where he gained experience teaching a variety of subjects: science, math, Latin, and computer courses. Now he works as a chemist in the Safety Services Office at BJU, teaches Distance Learning Physics and Algebra, and teaches Chemistry at Bob Jones Academy. He completed an M.Ed. in Secondary Education in 2014. He and his wife Mary Ann have two children, Brian and Janette. His favorite Bible verse is II Timothy 3:14.
Mrs. Hall (formerly Miss Lindstrom) has three years’ experience teaching in a first-grade classroom. "Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved school and loved learning. It is exciting to work with young children because they are naturally curious and are interested in many things. I want to encourage a child’s natural curiosity, and I want to develop in him a desire to learn for life. I want him to learn not just to acquire knowledge but to use his knowledge to serve and honor the Lord."
