K5 for Distance Learning

About the Courses

K5 Distance Learning teaches kindergarteners to apply their natural curiosity and start to develop a broad base of interests and gives them the basic tools they need to explore the world around them. Bible stories taught by Mrs. White spark an early interest in God’s Word. In K5 Beginnings, Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Lawson teach listening, oral composition, phonics, and reading comprehension while integrating art, science, and heritage studies concepts. K5 Math with Mrs. Franklin focuses on teaching number sense and uses manipulatives to explain basic math functions such as numbers, measurement, time, and money.

Mrs. Sarah Lawson, BS

Mrs. Sarah Lawson, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMrs. Lawson previously taught kindergarten for four years. "One of my goals in teaching is to help your child feel successful at his present level and to encourage him to improve. Throughout the lessons, we talk about simple yet extremely important concepts, such as ‘God made me special,’ and ‘God gave me the Bible.’ I enjoy talking about these things with the children through the lessons. I wanted to be a teacher from the time I was a little girl, and I’m thankful to the Lord for letting me teach your child through this Distance Learning program."

Mrs. Evanna Walker, BS

Mrs. Evanna Walker, a course instructor for BJU Press Distance LearningMrs. Walker has eight years’ experience teaching first grade at Bob Jones Elementary School. “My first love is to teach a child to read-primarily so that he can read God’s Word for himself and share it with others. He should be able to appreciate what he reads, draw conclusions, and make value judgments to become a thinker.”

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 12 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fun kindergarten review! Used these with my two older daughters. They always had fun finishing the pages with me every day, and the Vacation Stations always have fun incentives to finish the pages and to read every day. They make reviewing the school year enjoyable, and keep the previous material fresh in my girls' minds. That is why I have bought them for my youngest daughter. I want her to enjoy them, also. Rated 3 out of 5 by Good Material, but not much of it Overall I am pleased with the material, but for the price it's a terribly thin book. Other publishers provide just as good material for the same price with double the pages. Also disappointed that there's not as much Bible integration as other BJU curricula. April 15, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good fundamental teaching. I have yet to actually use product since my daughter won't start until this fall. I have went through all the books and supplies and am very excited to start this curriculum with her. My nephew is finishing it this year and from what I have seen the teachers are great and the papers go right along with the lesson. In every subject you get a great Bibical foundation. Would recommend to anyone looking to home school. February 27, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good The lessons are to slow. I find my self fast forwarding it a lot. The verse should be repeated 3x instead of just 2. Having a supply box for each subject is not needed. The exercise portion is also not needed. every thing should be edited down and kept short leaving time for extra curricular activitives. We need to homeschool for four hours which includes cooking art physical Ed music field trips. I just feel like it is feeling more like school we are so busy just doing the videos we run out of Time for some of the more creative activities of homeschooling. Otherwise great. I don't know if we will do it for again for first grade. I am considering the unschooled approach to homeschooling. Thanks February 15, 2013
