Spanish 1 Subject Kit

Introduce your child to the Spanish language and prepare him or her for future ministry and interaction with Spanish-speaking people with the Spanish 1 curriculum from BJU Press. The Spanish 1 curriculum is traditional in structure and organization. Teachers can choose whether to explain grammatical concepts in English first and then apply them to the Spanish language or to use the total immersion method. Teachers who have a limited knowledge of Spanish will find additional helps in the Teacher’s Edition, such as translations of all dialogs and stories, example sentences, and activities. It also contains additional explanations of the grammatical concepts presented as well as cultural information. The curriculum emphasizes missions and teaches Bible verses and vocabulary necessary for witnessing and ministering to Spanish speakers. The curriculum is also rich with activities to aid your child in understanding the concepts presented and to make learning fun.

The Spanish 1 Subject Kit contains all the items necessary for successfully teaching Spanish 1—7 items total.

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Necessary to grade Activity Manual, but not always helpful. If your child is using the Activities Manual, then you will need this. However, there are a great many times when the answer key simply says, "Answers will vary." For a non-Spanish-speaking teacher/mom, this is not terribly helpful in grading assignments! Also, there are a great deal of words and grammar situations that are expected to be known and understood, but that have not been taught yet. It is very frustrating for the students and the teacher. Rated 2 out of 5 by Good for a classroom, not so good for homeschool. This seems to be written for a classroom situation that is being taught by a Spanish-speaking teacher. It does not seem to be written for a homeschool situation in which the teacher is Mom who had two semesters of college Spanish 20+ years ago. The teacher's instructions are in no way helpful in a homeschool situation. I have to figure my own way to teach these lessons, which is stressful and time-consuming. Also, there are definitions and information in the back (white pages) that really need to be in the front (blue pages). Flipping back and forth is annoying and distracting. September 30, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by BJU Press great books! I started to use BJU press Spanish books three years ago, and it has made my work easier. It includes culture, Bible verses, Christian songs, and the Grammar is so explicit that I love it. It makes me happy that God helped us find BJU Press Spanish books to teach middle school students. Rated 4 out of 5 by I like the content and the pacing of this product. My 13 year old daughter is able to manage the materials independently. I like the way the program is set up and love all of the support materials. I would recommend to the company to produce a pacing guide for parents that shows how the materials work together. The pacing occurred at the bottom of each lesson, but a one page guide similar to what is in the literature curriculum would be very helpful. Rated 3 out of 5 by Not so much the book as the online program that I struggle with. The book works...if you as the teacher already know Spanish. It is very frustrating that the teacher key and student text both randomly have Spanish words, but no Engish translation. I have that same problem with the online program. The online teacher moves too fast through words (as in speaking too fast), and rarely gives an English meaning. My students have said that they know what to say in response to certain phrases, but they do not know what they are saying. And I have to search a lot to find answers for them. October 3, 2013
