When people hear the term “Test Prep,” they often equate it with “Teaching to the Test,” the unfortunate practice of many classroom teachers whose job and/or pay depends on their students’ performance on yearly standardized achievement tests. When done correctly, however, test preparation can be extremely helpful. Test prep that familiarizes students with the format of standardized tests and teaches students test-taking strategies may actually improve test scores. This type of test prep eases student anxiety about the test format or the testing environment. It lessens the possibility of students making errors because they are confused by the test format. The result is a more accurate picture of a student’s true knowledge and abilities.
BJU Press Testing & Evaluation offers test-preparation materials for both achievement tests and learning abilities tests.
